In this video, pro coach Mark Mitchell explains how to play a slow ball.
Modern table tennis seems to be getting faster and faster. But using a slow ball can be a very useful tactic to disrupt the rhythm of your opponent.
If your opponent does not read the change of pace or react quickly, then he/she will often play a weak shot, allowing you to dominate the rally.
Mark demonstrates the technique for playing a slow ball and explains when you should use it in a rally.
Mark is an ex-England International with 55 caps. During his playing career he won a European Team Bronze Medal and the National League Team Title twice. He also won the Portuguese Open and Icelandic Open. He was the GB Paralympic Coach for over 18 years, attending 4 Paralympic Games and numerous World and European Championships.
