Doubles – 1 day training camp

Many people play doubles, but there is very little advice and coaching about how to play doubles well. In this training camp we will focus entirely on the serves, receives, footwork, tactics and team skills needed to succeed in doubles matches. You’ll finish the day with a much clearer idea about how you and your doubles partner can play effectively together.

  • Date: TBC
  • Venue: Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre, Queen Anne Terrace, Cambridge, CB1 1NA
  • Start / finish time: 10am-3pm (5 hours)
  • Coach: Tom Lodziak + Carlos Coutinho
  • Participants: Maximum of 20 players
  • Cost: £70

What will you learn?

Here’s what to expect from this training camp…

10am-10.15am – Warm-up

10.15am-12.15pm –  Serve + receive … Learn how to serve effectively when playing doubles – how to signal, what spin to use and where to place the ball. We’ll also learn how to return these serves – where to stand and where to aim your shots.

12.15pm-12.45 – Lunch & chat with Tom

12.45pm-2.45pm – Footwork, positioning and rallying … Learn how to move in and out of the table, how to position yourself in relation to your partner and how to hit more shots than your opponents!

2.45pm-3pm – Debrief / cool-down

Who is this training camp suitable for?

This training camp is suitable for players at an intermediate (and above) standard. You should already be able to do a backspin serve, topspin serve, backhand push, forehand push, backhand drive and forehand drive.

This training camp is not suitable for complete beginners. Instead, I recommend 1-to-1 coaching. If you are unsure whether this training camp is suitable for you, please email me with more information about your playing standard and I will advise.

How many participants will there be?

There will be a maximum of 20 players on this training camp. Each table will have four players (two doubles teams). You will get the opportunity to play doubles with different people throughout the day. You will also get plenty of feedback from the coaches when you do the training exercises. You will experience a positive coaching environment, joined by like-minded table tennis enthusiasts!
