Training camp testimonials

I always strive to organise training camps where players learn, hit a lot of balls and have a positive experience. Here some feedback from players who have attended my training camps…

What did you like about the training camp?

The fact all our abilities are very similar, the quality of demos and coaching input. I also like the fact the end of day is never overlooked, I think it’s critical to keeping all us oldies able to move and return for another day. The videos being sent out is also fantastic. I share mine with my practice partner and we often return to those I struggle with.

There is really good technical input and a feeling that the coaches really care about helping you become a better player (which is not always the case at other brands of TT workshops). The format is good with 5 chunks a day with each focused on a different aspect and it is good in the way that there is a basic option and more advanced option to accommodate different standards of player. The atmosphere is friendly and supportive with a sense that everyone is there to learn new things, improve and help each other do so (ie not highly competitive). The pre-camp information is also very good – sent out at the right time and comprehensive, including suggestions for things to do outside TT. The Whatsapp group was a nice new addition.

The explanations are the best I ever seen. Amazing how big difference little things can make. I love real life camps.

Very friendly. 16 is a good number, giving all 3 coaches plenty of time to look and advise each player. The 3 levels of coaching from basic (Tom) to very technical (Ferenc) were brilliant. Loved the advice when all 3 came round to each table. Loved the part where we could choose what we wanted to have specific advice on. Hopefully my FH loop v backspin will start to work better after Tom told me to brush up MUCH faster than I had been doing. Also very much appreciate being included with the videos from the days that I didn’t attend. I shall definitely keep looking at those and incorporate in my future games and practice sessions.

Three 1:1s were terrific. All demo and slow-mo videos are really valuable; I will definitely re-visit them. I like the way you did a basic stroke demo and then followed it up with additional tweaks or different styles adopted by the other coaches. Coaches moving around the room giving tips and advice is again valuable. I liked how this was generally kept to small things e.g. get your feet right or remember to rotate etc. All in all it’s relaxed, informal but very professional and thoroughly enjoyable. I thought it was excellent.

Great coaches with coaching pitched at just the right level- from the very basic skill up to the more advanced technique. Very welcoming to all who attended regardless of ability. Friendly participants. Covered so much in just 4 days but without it feeling rushed and giving enough time to practice shots. Fun, fun , fun!!

The camp is well thought out and flows from one day to the next coming to light hearted competitions later in the week. The mix of getting the ball back or taking a more quality approach to technique during the demonstrations is great so you can use the most appropriate for your ability. The feedback of your play via the videos is great even though it’s not how I play in my head.😁. A very practical course and very appropriate for like minded league players.

You and your team. The level was high of the participants and it made moving round easy. The techniques were well demonstrated. Good having views of all coaches and demonstrated well. Good balance of drill demo not being rushed and time doing it. Your help and the team coming round with each drill with comments guaranteed for each one made it the best camp ever.

The specific focus of the course. The way the course built from day 1 to day 5. The quality of coaching. The relatively small group and high coach ratio. Only having one demo at a time to then go and practice. The match conditions related to the drills/skills we were working on, very creative!

The excellent organisation and structured approach that ensures that every part of the day is used well. Great coaches , friendliness and encouragement and always a lot of fun and you come away having learnt so much.

I thought it was well organised and ran smoothly. It was good spirited with a fun atmosphere but also well focused on specific drills to improve us. Also having the videos of the demos is a brilliant resource. It’s a good venue and easy to get to. Having yourself, Ferenc and Charlotte as coaches was superb and encouraging. The warm ups and warm downs were great to survive the week. I was recovering from a sprained ankle coming in to the camp but it held up OK and I think this was due to all the stretching etc.

Professional, welcoming, organised, manageable numbers, great location, great facilities, excellent training plan – what was not to like!

The training camp was friendly & informal, with a very good atmosphere. It was also well structured throughout the course. The course catered well for all age groups and abilities. Your rapport with everyone was excellent, helping players as and when required. The other two coaches were supportive and encouraging. The venue was also good, including food and drink available downstairs in the foyer.

Simple, clear drills and exercises, the chance to work on improving key shots and thinking about our A and B games. Loved the good atmosphere and camaraderie. Enjoyed the gentle competitive element.

The specific focus of the course itself, the quality of teaching, application to “our local league level of play”, and follow up drills, tasks or match play, positive style of coaching from all 4 coaches, fairly close ability level of attendees seemed (with the frequent partner changes) to negate the need for ability groups , my perception was that we all received a fair amount of personal input from the coaches rather than thinking the better players were receiving a disproportionate amount of input, the motivation and focus of attendees from so many counties across UK and countries across the world!

The didactical style of all coaches. 4 days and only one topic. The 3 minute games and no real matches. I left the training camp very positive. I do not like those training camps where they organize real competition during the last afternoon. That does not help my confidence when I have to go home with many defeats.

Great course just what I needed more of the tactics of playing the game. I enjoyed meeting different people from various countries with different styles of TT. Also being able to interact with Top table tennis players and of course meeting you TOM 🙂
