In this video I explain a simple training drill you can do, which will help improve your reactions, your rallying skills and your ball placement.

We start backhand to backhand. When my partner chooses, he switches the ball to my forehand. We then play forehand to forehand. When I choose, I switch the ball to my partner’s backhand. And we keep going, switching the direction of play every few balls.

This is a drill which any player, at any standard can try. It’s a good alternative to playing only forehand to forehand or only backhand to backhand. The constant random switching means you have to stay focused all the time on your opponent. This is an essential skill when playing table tennis matches.
